Alyssa Katz was born in Detroit, Michigan, and while a child, moved to Tampa, Florida, where she attended the prestigious Berkeley Preparatory School. She then attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Communications . She subsequently received her Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Gardens, Florida in 1996.
In 1997, Alyssa began her litigation career as an Assistant Public Defender in Palm Beach County where she tried numerous misdemeanor and felony cases during her three year stint. In 2000, Ms. Katz returned to Tampa where she worked at the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office where she worked in county court as well as in Circuit Court drug divisions. Before going into private practice, Ms. Katz served as an Assistant Attorney General.
In 2003, Ms. Katz Joined the Law Office of Michael P. Maddux where she practiced criminal defense and wrote a considerable number of appeals, many of which she argued before the Second District Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining Ligori & Sanders, she represented insurance companies and policy holders in matters related to defending homeowners claims, personal injuries, and property damage. Property damage matters have included cases such as commercial building claims, storm damage claims, sinkhole claims, water damage claims, flood claims and more.
Alyssa began working for Ligori & Sanders as of October 2017. She currently serves on the Florida Bar of Professional Ethics Committee, and in the past, has served as Special Hearing Master in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Drug Courts. Additionally, Alyssa served for 10 years on the Hillsborough County Children’s Services Advisory Board. Alyssa is committed to fighting for injured victims and making sure that everyone has access to the best legal representation.
Alyssa understands that not everyone is familiar with the legal system and that it can be a daunting task to navigate through it. Therefore, she takes a consultative approach with clients and enjoys walking them through the entire process. She is a believer in the right of the individual and pays tribute to her family, friends and community for being her biggest influences on her career.
